My journey in CrossFit began over 5 years ago. Why do I CrossFit? Well, when I am 90 years old, I want to be able to get in (and out of) the bathtub as well as on and off of the toilet by myself. I know that there are no guarantees in life; however, I know that by taking care of my body I can ‘delay the decay’.
Two years ago, the owner of CrossFit Mount Olympus approached me about becoming a Level 1 Certified CrossFit Coach. It became a natural change as I had always loved bringing friends and family and showing them the different movements. Even though we have changed owners—and the gym has changed its name to CrossFit EMC, I have appreciated the small classes and the feeling of community with all of the athletes and coaches.
Most people are surprised when I tell them that I am a mother of 5 children, am closer to 50 than to 40, and can deadlift double my bodyweight. Being a wife and mother are my greatest accomplishments and I love ‘keeping house’. When I am not coaching a CrossFit class, I can be found out in the orchard or in my garden. We have over 200 fruit trees as well as a large garden area with all kinds of vegetables. I enjoy trying new restaurants, scrapbooking with the girls, mentoring in a youth leadership program (Youth Making a Difference), and volunteering in my church.
